Engagement Advice

It is one of the most important moments in a person’s life. You have found that special someone that you want to spend the rest of your life with and the time is right to propose.

It’s a big decision, and how and when you do decide to do it will be different for everyone, but if you are looking for a little bit of advice to get you started, we’ve put together a short guide to help you out.

The Time

Timing is everything when it comes to a proposal. That might mean choosing a meaningful date such as an anniversary, birthday or Valentine’s or New Year’s Day – something significant that will create a lasting memory. However, it could also mean just simply going with a day that feels right to you. Any day you choose to propose will be a significant date, so just make sure you are feeling calm and ready and be sure to enjoy this special moment.

The Place

Location is another thing to consider, and again this will be unique to each couple. Maybe go back to the place where you first met, or where you had your first date. It could be somewhere you have been on holiday together or somewhere completely new. Creating the perfect romantic atmosphere is what’s important, whether that’s just the two of you in your own living room, or surrounded by friends and family, at a restaurant or a party, you will know what is right for you.

The Moment

What about the practicalities of the proposal, how are you actually going to do it? You can keep it traditional, getting down on one knee in that classic romantic gesture. You could get creative: spell it out with candles, hide the ring in a champagne glass like they do in the movies – hire a skywriter even! The world is your oyster but whatever you do, this will be a story that will be told to friends and family throughout the years, so make it count.

Don’t Forget The Ring!

Finally, you need to choose the ring! This is an extremely personal choice, but if you know your partner well you will more than likely have an idea of where to start. If you aren’t sure and you want it to be a surprise, have a look at their current jewellery to get an idea of the style they like (as well as the size!) and ask for advice from your jewellers. We are always happy to offer help and advice to guide you in your decision, and we have a wide selection of rings to suit every style, or you can even arrange for a bespoke design. Just give us a call or come into the shop and we’ll talk you through it.
